League Meeting changed to TUE, Apr 21st

Letter To All Teams

On behalf of George Giesbrecht and the FHL Executive I would like to thank everyone for another great year of Fellowship Hockey. It was another successful year and I hope that all the teams enjoyed their experience. As you are already aware, George will be retiring from the FHL this year and will finally get a much needed and well deserved rest. With the departure of George the league is left with a vacancy in the president position. Having said that, the Executive is not waiting until the position is filled to plan for next year. At a recent Executive meeting it was determined that the plan is to continue with the league and to do everything in our power to make it as a desirable a league to play in as possible. The absence of George and his efforts will no doubt be felt by the league. However the Executive feels that the FHL can continue to be one of the better hockey leagues in the city. We feel that with the support of the current teams we can work towards growing the league in a matter which ensures the best possible environment for all participants.

The one item that came out of our recent meeting is that in order for the FHL to continue to prosper and grow we will require input from all the current members. The Executive would like to hear from the teams and their Captains to help us improve the league and maintain your interest in staying with the FHL. We have decided that during the League wrap up meeting (sometime during the week of April 20th) we want to hear from you. We would like all Captains to talk to all of their players and find out their opinions, thoughts and suggestions for the league. We will be looking for your feedback to help us to determine which direction the league should go.

Some of the items we would like feedback on:

  • The FHL as a whole. What should stay? What should go?
  • League divisions and format. Suggestions?
  • Arenas currently used. Like? Dislike?
  • Game days and times. What are your thoughts?
  • Reffing (Note: Constructive criticism only please)
  • Length of the season. Too long? Too short?
  • Cost to play. Suggestions?
  • All Star Banquet. Should it stay?
  • Anything else?

Basically the Executive want to know what needs to be addressed to ensure your teams commitment to play in the League? We would like the meeting to be a productive one and we hope to get a lot of great feedback out of it. We would also like to invite you to bring other members of your team if they would like to participate or voice their opinions. The Executive is committed to focusing their efforts on improving the league and ensuring that members are happy with the product. We thank you in advance for your time and we look forward to hearing from you in a couple of weeks.

    Sincerely,
    FHL Executive

    WFHL Playoffs

To all teams in the WFHL thanks for a great season so far we have had no major incidents and our hockey has been very exciting and for the most part we have had very good parity in all divisions.

As in the past we donít want to waste ice times as each one costs us about $300.00 so please be ready to play on short notice and watch the website for updates as I will be posting the scores on a nightly basis so we will be aware of when we play as soon as possible. If you have some critical day Wedding etc. that will not allow your team to play on a certain date please let me know so I can try to plan around it. We have had enough results in to establish the divisions but not all positions in the divisions have been confirmed. Here is what we know as of today and what each division will consist of for the playoffs.

    Division 1
Martens, Warriors, Freewheelers, and Hawks: #1 vs #4 AND #2 vs #3 will each be a best of 3 series. Then the 2 winners play a best of 5 for the Fellowship Cup.

    Division 2
Northstars, Red River Storm, Monarchs and Wildcats. Since we moved the Wildcats down and didnít move the Monarchs up we decided to have the Monarchs vs Wildcats in a best of 3 in first round and have the Red River Storm vs Northstars in a best of 3. Then the 2 winners will face each other in a best of 5 for the Fellowship Cup.

    Division 3
Hornets, Fish Stix, Pioneers, Generals and Wings. To determine the final spot we will play a 2 game total point series Generals vs Wings. The winner goes on to play the first place Hornets in a best of 3 and the 2nd Place Fish Stix will play the 3rd place Pioneers in a best of three. Then the 2 winners play each other in a best of 5 for the fellowship Cup.

RULES ARE SAME AS IN THE PAST

Each player must have played a minimum of 8 games to qualify if you have guys that were injured and donít have their 8 games in you must give me the details to see if we can give them an exemption and place them on the exemption list!! REMEMBER PLAYING AN UNQUALIFIED PLAYER RESULTS IN FORFEITING THE GAME!!!!!!!

BE READY TO START GAMES ON TIME!!!!! In case of a tie at end of regulation time there will be a 5 min sudden death period with first 4 min being running time and the last minute stop time. After that 5 shooters in a shootout. If still tied then the shootout goes to sudden death and the same shooters can shoot one more time.

Play the type of hockey your church would be proud of. Remember to play good clean hockey, respecting all game officials, Rink Attendants, Fans, and most importantly the players you play against.

Make your main goal to maximize the Fun & Fellowship of this great opportunity!!!!!!!!

As you know this will be my last season as President of the Fellowship Hockey League and my goal is to finish strong and ensure that all of you maximize the enjoyment opportunity we have together. Letís all have a great time of fun and fellowship as we close out this hockey season!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still Looking for New Presdient Candidate

The WFHL is still looking for someone to step forward and take over as President for George as this is his last season. It would be nice for that person to get some hands-on experience before the current season comes to a close and to answer any questions that person would have about the league. If you or anyone you know would be interested, please contact George at georgeg@mts.net or 204-275-5680.

    George's Resignation Speech

As some of you already know I have decided to step down from my involvement with the FHL. This has not been an easy decision and It is with mixed feelings that I to make this announcement.

Effective April 30, 2015 I will be stepping down as President of the Fellowship Hockey League

After 40 years of involvement in the League, I feel it is time to hand over the responsibility of running the league to someone else. We have many capable people involved in the league and the executive and I would encourage anyone who wants to get involved to contact me over the next 3 months so that we can put the plans in place for a smooth transition to the new leader.

The current Executive is made up of League Treasurer Myron Fiks, Web Master Mike Cameron, todayís M.C. Kai Jacob, our photographer Ian Melnychuk, and myself, George Giesbrecht as President.

For many years I have enjoyed all the aspects of the Fellowship Hockey League. My involvement started in 1975. I had been playing hockey in the Western Interlake League for the St. Laurent Voyagers. I loved playing hockey and would drive hundreds of miles to play the game that I loved.

In 1975 I met my wonderful wife Debbie (who is with me tonight) and we got married, so driving hundreds of miles to

play hockey was not practical. I heard about the Ďchurch leagueí that was in existence with four teams. A friend invited me out to play for the Portage Avenue Baptist Church and the rest is history.

After playing for one year, I was voted into leadership and enjoyed the aspect of developing and building a league from the ground up. In those days it was a full contact hockey league similar to current senior hockey. We started with four teams and over the next 15 years we built it up to about 38 teams. Initially we were playing all over the city in both private and city arenas.

Then we got an invite to play our games at the Highlander on Ellice Ave. & Ferry Rd. They gave us a great deal on ice costs as they had a surplus of weekend ice and most of our games were on weekends. We enjoyed the fellowship aspect of playing in one location and mingling after and before games to bond and build many solid relationships.

But as time moved on, the Highlander League was also growing at a rapid rate and so we were given the ultimatum of moving our games to the red-eye time slots starting at 11:15 p.m. and all the way to 2:00 a.m., or to move our hockey out of their facility.

We decided as a league to go back to individual arenas both city and private. This worked out well for us as we got fairly

good ice times starting at 6:45 p.m. on Saturdays to 9:45 and 10:00 p.m. during the week. This is still where we are today. We have ice on every day of the week except Sunday.

We currently have 17 teams in the league and themed our current season as:

GETTING BACK TO THE BASICS, PLAYING THE TYPE OF HOCKEY OF WHICH OUR CHURCHES WOULD BE PROUD.

We started the year with an executive meeting with the referees to ensure we were all on the same page. We wanted to ensure that they knew our expectations and that we understood their concerns. I feel this has resulted in better officiating and more enjoyment for everyone. We have had very few altercations and penalties continue to be very low for all teams.

Our goal is to enjoy the fellowship of teammates, competitors, game officials, rink attendants, and those watching us play. My motto for our church team, the Whytgeridge Wings, is ďTREAT OTHERS LIKE YOU WANT TO BE TREATED ON THE ICE AND IN YOUR DAILY WALK!!Ē If we all did that we would all be happier and this world would be a better place for us all.

    Shared stories about:
  • Injuries
  • Playing for the Championship
  • Banquet and Special guest speakers
  • Parking lot experience

There are many things I will miss from the FHL when I leave but I feel the time is right for me to spend more time with family, pursue personal interests, and do some traveling during the winter months.

I want to thank my family: Wife Debbie, Daughters Tanya and Tiffany for their understanding and support for the many nights when hockey was a priority.

I want to thank all the members of the executive over the last 40 years for their help and support during good times and sometimes not so good times.

I want to thank all the team reps over the last 40 years that have supported me and took the message back to their teams of what our priorities were and how we wanted to play the game.

I want to thank all the Fans Especially the wives and girlfriends who have stood by their teams over the years and have come out to encourage and support there special friends. I treasure all the great memories and relationships with them as well.

I want to thank all the referees with whom I have had the privilege of working and who showed up every night and did the best job they could.

I also want to Thank Larry Ring and the entire Gloria Dei Team for their invitations to their cup winning parties.

I want to thank Lorne & Heather Korol, whom we have gotten to know and love as they have introduced us to many great Christian athletes who share our common goals and beliefs.

Letís enjoy the moment and continue to build relationships both on and off the ice. Players letís respect each other and ensure we donít cause injuries due to bad decisions on the ice.

We have lots of hockey left to play in the second half including playoffs so letís finish strong and play the type of hockey our churches would be proud of.

I want to thank each one that is here tonight it is great to see you all. We will be treated to a great evening of Food Fun Fellowship and finish the evening with an exciting hockey game.

GOD BLESS EACH ONE OF YOU AS YOU CONTINUE ON

We have the same caterers as last year and will start with refreshments at 5:30 P.M. and dinner at 6:00.

At the banquet, in addition to all the good things we have had in the past, we will have a special guest speaker from the CFLís Winnipeg Blue Bombers Jarvis Jones who will be introduced by Lorne Korol of Athletes In Action.

Due to only 13 teams in the league, we will take a little more time for the banquet, and then have the First Division All Stars Play the Second Division All Stars with a start time of 9:15.

There will be trophies for the MVP of each team in both games presented on ice immediately after each game.

At the Banquet we will present last yearís awards for the Top Goaltender and Scoring leader in each division and the winners are:

Top Goaltender Darren Anderson 3.81 GAA from Freewheelers
Top Scorer Gavin Ewert 40G 23A 63 Pts from the Hawks

    Second Division:
Top Goaltender Greg Martin 3.26 GAA from the Hornets

If possible could all 3 Division Champions bring there FHL Cup to the banquet so we can recognize them as well, they are:

    Warriors First Division Champs
    Northstars Second Division Champs
    Wings Third Division Champs

For the All Star Game we would like the Martens and Warriors send 3 players and the other teams 2 players each that way we can have 14 skaters in Div. 1 as they only have 6 teams. In Div. 2 we have 7 teams so if each team sends 2 skaters we will also have 14 skaters total.

All the stats and Division make-up were done with end of first half standings.

    Note To All Teams

To speed up the game and help us reach our goals, here are a few things we want to implement:
    1. Game Sheets
The home team should always have the game sheet done ahead of time when they arrive at the rink and take it to the timekeepers box immediately.
All teams should print off a roster sheet from the website listing all the players and their # (typed) so that when the visiting team arrives they should have their roster sheet filled out and leave a copy in the timekeepers box so that as soon as the timekeeper arrives he or she can write in the info from the visitors roster sheet and the game sheet will be completed.
After the game, the timekeeper will keep the first page of the game sheet and each team receives a copy and then the visiting team will also get back their roster sheet to be reused at their next game (or they can print out a new sheet from the website).
This will hopefully speed up the process and help us start the game on time.
Note: If your roster sheet isn't accurate (ie. too many players showing), please login with your team password and go to the "Add/Edit Player" section. Only players that are Active and NOT a spare will show on the roster list. Please update your player list accordingly. The link to the roster page is on the website and also in the team login section.
    2. Make sure you teams arrive early and get dressed quickly so that once the Zamboni is off the ice we are ready for a quick warm up and the game can begin.
    3. Once the game starts, let's keep it moving donít procrastinate during line changes etc. Lets be organized and ready to maximize the opportunity for enjoyment.
    4. Make sure you take the copy of your game sheet and enter it into the stats section on the website so that we can have accurate timely information.
    5. Make a point of making the refs feel a part of the game by thanking them for there service. (Even though sometimes that is a hard thing to do)
    6. Most importantly have your team buy into playing the type of hockey your church would be proud of.

    Playoffs

Please find the playoff structure for this season below. As you know we are already into March before the season is finished so we will have to be ready to play on short notice and play a lot of hockey in the next month so we get it finished by Spring Break which starts last week in March. Thanks again for all your help and support to make this happen.

Please remember that in order for a player to play in the playoffs he needs to have played a minimum of 8 games. Some teams have not entered all their game sheets so we would encourage you to do that ASAP, this way you will know if some of your teammates don't qualify. If teams play ineligible players they forfeit the game so lets make sure we abide by that. (we have the game sheets to confirm the info)
Another important element is: Be ready to play as per schedule on the website as that will be updated daily, the sooner we are ready to play the more chance there is of us getting extra time in case overtime and shot-out are required.

Playoff rules stay the same as prior years 5 min running time sudden death period with the last min being stop time. If it is still tied then a 5 man shootout if it is still tied you continue on in a sudden death 1 on 1 shootout till a winner is declared. You can rotate your shooters a second time but then you need to move through the entire line-up before anyone can shot a 3rd time.

Penalty Minute Rule: Remember that when you reach 40 minutes in penalties you need to serve a 3 game suspension during the regular season. If you stay below that when the playoffs start then the cap is increased to a total season of 60 min. once you reach that you are suspended for the rest of the season so please make sure you take notice to that.

THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE IS PLAY THE TYPE OF HOCKEY YOUR CHURCHES WOULD BE PROUD OF. THERE WILL BE MORE FANS ATTENDING AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT YOURSELF IN A CHRIST LIKE MANNER WILL BE MORE IMPORTANT THEN EVER.

Let's respect our teammates, the opposition, game officials and the rink attendants and make this the best playoff season ever.

    Division 1
We will do a 2 game total points between Menno Knights and Screaming Eagles to determine the last playoff spot and then Gloria Dei will play a best of 3 with that team.
D5 and the Martens will play a best of 3 series with the winner of this series and the other series playing a best of 5 for the Fellowship Cup.

    Division 2
There will be 2 rounds first round 1 vs. 4 in a best of 3 then 2 vs. 3 in best of 3 and then the 2 winners in a best of 5 for the Fellowship Cup.

    Division 3 & 4
The top 2 teams in each division get the bye with 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5 playing a best of 3 series.
Then the top team plays the winner of 4 vs. 5 in a best of 3 and the 2nd place team plays the winner of 3 vs. 6 in a best of 3 Then the 2 winners play a best of 5 for the Fellowship Cup.

    Division 5 40+
    Top team gets the Bye
During week of March 10th - 14th the 2nd place team plays the 5th place team & 3rd Place team plays 4th place team to determine placement for Playoff tournament on March 15th in Rosenort.
That schedule will be released soon!!!!!

Good luck to all teams and please enjoy the playoff season and remember it is only a game and our goal continues to be that we maximize the fun and fellowship aspect of our hockey league.

    Sincerely George

    All-Star Banquet & Game

The All-Star banquet this year is on January 18th 2014 at Oak Bluff Recreation Center. We are hoping you will leave this weekend open so that you can attend this great event.

There will only be 1 all-star game this year consisting of 15 stars from Div 1&4 vs 15 stars from Div 2&3. We will make the game a little longer than usual.

The guest speaker this year will be Winnipeg Blue Bomber Andre Douglas. Having just the single game will give us more time for the guest speaker as well.

We will once again have Ludwick Caters supply us with lots of great food etc.

It looks like we will leave the divisions the way they currently are.

Please confirm if there are any dates your team cannot play in addition to the ones that were sent earlier in the season. Please forward this information onto George at georgeg@mts.net.

    Happy Holidays!

    Another Schedule Update

Due to guys changing jobs and some moving away the Isotopes advised us that they had to drop out of the league this past Friday.

George had to redo the schedule to use the extra ice times. Some teams ended up with a few double headers etc but things will balance out in the second half. Please check the master schedule and make sure you have the corrected schedule. Sorry for the inconvenience once again.

I have some bad news to report on the health of Dave Burr, a long time referee for the Fellowship Hockey League. Dave was diagnosed this past Friday with a brain aneurism. The tumor on his brain is aggressive and inoperable. Dave will be off for the rest of the season. I would ask that you join me and the executive in prayer for Dave and his wife Kathy as they deal with this situation. I am in touch with them and will provide any updates. Together we want to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Dave reffed the following games recently:

Mon, Feb 4 - Dutton - Northstars @ Menno Knights
Tue, Feb 5 - Billy Mosienko - Freewheelers @ Shamrocks
Wed, Feb 6 - Eric Coy - Gloria Dei @ Screaming Eagles
Fri, Feb 8 - Billy Mosienko - Warriors @ Monarchs

If you would like to pass along a message to Dave, don't hesitate to contact George at georgeg@mymts.net.

    4/13/2012
    Hi Everyone
Thanks again to all the teams in the Fellowship Hockey League for your support through-out this past season. It seemed that the season flew by but that means we had lots of Fun & Fellowship. Penalties were down substantially, and very few claims on our insurance policy so that is all good. Our goal is to play the kind of hockey that our churches would be proud of and when we do that with respect for our team mates as well as the teams we play it will result in fewer injuries and less penalties and more fun for everyone.
Now that the season is over we want to have a season ending meeting were we can evaluate the past year and discuss ways of being even better next season. I want to invite all the team Reps in the 4 regular divisions (NOT THE 40+) to come to the meeting on April 23, 2012 7:00 P.M. at Whyteridge Baptist Church. For teams that are present that are entitled to receive refund checks we will be handing them out and if you are not at the meeting we will credit your team with that amount against next year's Fees.
We have already had a commitment from the Stars(WHO TOOK A LEAVE OF ABSENCE) to come back to the FHL for next season and we welcome them with open arms. If you know of any other teams that are interesting in joining us for next season please pass on my info to them and have them contact me anytime.
See you all at the meeting and for those that can't make it have a great summer and we'll see you in September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Sincerely George
    3/2/2012
It is hard to believe that the regular season is finished and the playoffs are here already.

I just want to make a couple of very important points to ensure it is as much fun as possible.

#1 Make sure all teams are on the Ice and ready to play as soon as the ice is ready. We are asking for extra time in case of a tie for 5 min. overtime with the last min. being stop time and then a shoot out to ensure we don't end up with any tie games so lets make sure we are ready and on time. SHOOT OUT IS FIRST 5 MAN THEN SUDDEN DEATH IF STILL TIED.
#2 The intensity levels just automatically seem to go up during the playoffs so lets all be disciplined and play clean hockey and make this a fun night for everyone. If we have taken the law into our own hands and done some stupid things you usually go home with an empty feeling and we don't want that. If however you have played to the best of your ability and lost the game it makes it much more acceptable.
#3 Respect your opponents as well as your team mates and don't play with reckless abandon, we have not had any serious injuries this year and we want to keep it that way. PLAY SAFE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#4 To ensure we make use of all the ice we have, make sure you plan on being available as much as possible to play the games on short notice. Some series will go in straight game and others will go the max. I will have the timekeepers call me with the scores immediately after the games which will help us have a quick turnaround for scheduling NEXT GAMES.
#5 If you have any questions or concerns make sure you contact me preferably by email as I will be checking it constantly. georgeg@mts.net
#6 Have a great time of Fun Fellowship and Enjoyment, GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS!!!!!!!!
    2/16/2012
    Playoff Information

Our goal in the FHL is to have as much fun & fellowship as possible building relationships within our own team, as well as the teams we play. It is hard to believe that the regular season is almost over and the playoff are just around the corner we have just come through a season with no serious injuries or incidents let's continue that trend into the playoffs and beyond.

We all know that the intensity levels go up a little during the playoffs but never lose sight of the fact that it is only a game and not that important in the big picture. SO LET'S PLAY TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES BUT ALWAYS RESPECTING EACH OTHER AS WELL AS THE TEAMS WE PLAY SO THAT WE WON'T BE INJURED OR INJURE ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To ensure that we all have as much fun and fellowship as possible we have put together a very fair playoff format please see the details below.

    Division 1
Division 1 will be split up, with Gloria Dei & District 5 going straight to a Best of 5 series and the Winner taking the FHL Division 1 Championship Cup.

    Division 2
The 4 remaining teams from Division 1 will do a best of 3 series with 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. Then the winners will play a best of 5 series and compete for the Division 2 Championship Cup.

    Division 3
In the current Division 2 (for playoffs will be Div.3) the Isotopes will get the bye and then the remaining 6 teams play a best of 3 between 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. Then the Isotopes would play a best of 3 series with the winner of 4 vs 5. The winner of 2 vs 7 would play the winner of 3 vs 6 in a best of 3 and then the 2 winners of each series would play a best of 5 for the FHL Division 3 Championship cup.

    Division 4
In the current division 3 (for playoffs will be Div.4) we will start off with the Generals vs Pioneers in a 2 game total points to establish 8th place. Then the Hornets would play 8th in a best of 3 series. The rest of the series would be 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. Then it would be winners of 1 or 8 vs winners of 4 or 5, and winners of 3 or 6 vs winners of 2 or 7 in a best of 3 semi finals. The 2 winners will then go into a best of 5 final for the Division 4 Championship Cup.

    Over 40
In the 40+ division we will have the 9th place finisher in the 4th division join so we have 6 teams. All 6 teams will play their first playoff game on Sat March 3 and then finish the playoffs with a Playoff tournament where all 6 teams will play 2 games on March 10th in Rosenort.

I believe this is going to create a lot of parity in the playoffs and give all teams a chance to compete for the division championships as well as play a lot of hockey.

We will be implementing the same playoff rules as in the past. It is important to maintain a great relationship with the rink attendants so they will let us have the Overtime & Shootout.

If a game is tied after regulation time, we will go into a 5 minute sudden death overtime period. If it is still tied, then a 5-man shoot out. If still tied, then it becomes a sudden death shootout and everyone is eligible to shoot once in the sudden death round.

As soon as absolutely possible, I will put your specific playoff games on the website so please keep a close eye on it and make sure your team is always ready to play. Thanks again for all your support throughout the season and let's finish the year on a very positive note.

    Sincerely George

The Monarchs/Generals series was a best of 2 series and both teams won a game, therefore the series was decided with an overtime period. There was no scoring in OT so a 5-man shootout was required. There were no goals scored after the first 4 shooters for both sides. The Generals failed to score on their 5th attempt and the Monarchs had a chance to take the series. The 5th shooter for the Monarchs was able to beat the Generals goalie and clinch the series. Monarchs will now face Hurricane in the next round.
    2/19/2011
Just a reminder to all teams to check the playoff matchup section of the website for when you play in the first round. The first 2 games are up for each series. There is still a couple games on Sat, Feb 19th to determine 1st and 2nd place for division 4.
    2/9/2011
    Playoff Formats

    Divsion 1-2
5 of 7 TEAMS polled liked the option of Gloria Dei getting a bye and then starting with 3 best of three's. It would look like this: 2 VS 7 , 3 VS 6 , 4 VS 5.
Then Gloria Dei would enter the next Round Vs winner of 4 VS 5 and the other 2 winners would play each again a best of 3 then the 2 winners after that would square of in a best of 5.

    Division 3
We would give the top 2 teams a bye and go with # 3 VS #6 , #4 Vs #5 Best of three series. Then the top team would take on the winner of 4 vs. 5 and the second team would take on the winner of 3 vs. 6 again in a best of 3 then the 2 winners would play each other in a best of 5.

    Division 4
We will start with a 2 game set between #8 and #9 the game would be 2 wins not by total goals but just winning the game. if both teams win one game then the second game would go to a 5 min. overtime. If the overtime ends in a tie a shoot-out would follow to determine a winner.

Then we would continue with the winner taking on #1 and then #2 Vs 7 #3 vs. #6 #4 vs. #5 all in a best of 3 game series. The following round would continue to be a best of three series with a best of five final.

Once again we want to have the Playoff rules in effect which means if it is tied after the 3 periods we want to play a 5 min O.T. period first 4 min running time the last min stop time. We will play 5 on 5 to get as many people involved into the game as possible. Change only on the fly.
If it is still tied then we will have a 5 man shoot out Home team gets the option of who shoots first. After the 5 players have had 1 shot they can go through 1 more time but can't shoot again until everyone on the bench has shot once. If a player is in the penalty bench due to a penalty at the end of O.T. he can not take part in the shoot-out.

Therefore it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT BOTH TEAMS HAVE THE GAME SHEET FILLED OUT AND ARE READY TO PLAY AS SOON AS THE ICE IS READY IN CASE WE NEED OVERTIME AND A SHOOT-OUT.
PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY MAKE SURE ALL THE PLAYERS YOU USE HAVE PLAYED A MIN OF 8 GAMES DURING THE REGULAR SEASON UNLESS THEY WERE INJURED.

    RINK ATTENDANTS
Please let them know that it is a playoff game and ask them in event there is a tie if they will allow us to play a 5 min overtime and if it is still tied a quick shoot-out.

    REFEREES
Remember to treat the Refs with respect and love so that they can do their job properly and as we all know we will never win an argument with the refs so if they make a call accept it and serve the penalty.

The Playoffs Start with 1 game on Feb. 18 and 4 on Feb 19th and then continue Feb. 21. If you have a day that is almost impossible to play make sure you let me know immediately so I can take that into consideration and try to accommodate your needs. Have an awesome playoffs and I will see you on the ice.

If anyone needs game sheets please send me an email and I will make sure you get some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sincerely George

Just a few things to keep in mind.

#1 Please ensure that the game sheets are filled out and teams are ready to go on the ice when the ice time starts as per our schedule. Some Rink attendants are not happy that a few teams are slow getting on and then they want to go running time at the end of the game so please be ready to go. ( We want to have a good relationship so when the playoffs start they will allow us overtime.)

#2 Teams playing at Century the Rink Attendants office is at the far end of the Ice and he would like the teams/Refs to come and get the room key from him as soon as they arrive so that they won't be looking for it when he is on the Zamboni cleaning the ice.

#3 Teams Playing in Rosenort Due to ensuring we get the refs we have changed the start times on the games for the first game to 7:00 from 6:30 and to 8:30 from 8:00 for the second hour. Please make sure you check your times when going to Rosenort.

#4 All Teams please be aware that the end of November is the Deadline to have the final payments in so you won't be charged the $100 late payment fee.

#5 This is the most exciting point and is for all the ladies that are interested in some recreation hockey we will most likely only play exhibition games before Christmas but it will be a chance to get on the ice and meet other ladies. This is open to individuals as well as groups that want to put in an entire team.
I have got 2 ice times this coming weekend for informal scrimmages for all ladies interested in getting out on the ice and hearing more about the WFHL. The ice times are Friday November 26th Sargent Park 9:45 - 10:45 and Saturday November 27, Gateway arena 6:45 - 7:45. The cost will be $10.00 per person per night or if you want to commit to both nights it will be $15.00 for the 2 sessions. Hope to see all the ladies there. For more info have all ladies contact George at georgeg@mts.net or 275-5680.

For those that have paid for tickets to the canceled fundraiser, you can get you money back.

For those who donated online, the money will either be refunded back to you or will be forwarded to Jer (due to the fact the event isn't happening, whether the Church can still accept those donations).

Jeremy Litke is 29. He was badly injured in a hockey accident in February 2009 and is currently on the road to recovery at the Health Sciences Center. While Jeremy's neck is broken, his courage and faith are not. We stand with him in hope and prayer.

Since his accident, friends and family have been looking for a way to show their support for Jeremy. The Next Step Fundraiser is a way for all of us to come together, applaud Jeremy's courage, and raise funds for his road to recovery.

    Our goal is $20,000.

You can help Jeremy take the next step in several ways:

  • Collect silent auction prize donations (all proceeds go to support Jeremy's recovery).
  • Donate online to the cause through the website below.
  • Order tickets on-line for May 2 through the website below.
  • Come out and participate on May 2.
  • Visit Jeremy at HSC ... he would love to see you!

    Taken from the Rules/Policies section:
Alcohol - In keeping with the Christian focus of the FHL, and the strict enforcements of the No Alcohol Policy in all arenas (ZERO TOLERANCE). Use of alcohol prior to or during any league sanctioned events is strictly prohibited. If an alcohol related complaint is submitted to the league, the offending team will forfeit 2 points in the standings.

We have had a number of games with only 1 ref and even had 2 games where we didn't have any refs. We are very busy trying to rectify the situation and it will get better shortly.

If we see only 1 ref, let's work that much harder as a team to make sure we don't have any incidents and help the ref out instead of getting on his case. He is doing the best that he can and if we get on his case he may not come back to do any games. The whole idea is that we want to play the type of hockey our churches would be proud of so then the refs become a non-factor.

Let's work with the refs to ensure we have a great game. We ask for everyone's support on this.

    Thank You.

    FHL PLAYOFFS 2008

    OVERTIME RULES

  • 5 minute overtime period
  • 4 minutes running time - last 1 minute is stop time
  • 4 on 4 play
  • Penalties are 2 minutes
  • When a penalty is called in overtime the clock will be stopped in order to enter the penalty on the score clock. The clock will not start again until the puck is dropped. This will help ensure that the penalized player is in the penalty box for as close to two minutes as possible
  • If a player gets a minor, double minor or 5 min major penalty in overtime or if one of these penalties occur toward the end of the third period and carries over into the overtime period, play will be 5 on 4
  • If a second penalty is called against the same team prior to the first penalty expiring play will be 5 on 3
  • If the opposing team receives a penalty while both players on the other team are in the penalty box play will be 4 on 3
  • When all penalized players return to the ice it will be 5 on 5. 4 on 4 hockey will resume after the next stoppage in play
  • Coincidental minors are applied as normal. The penalties offset and the play continues 4 on 4 with the penalized players leaving the penalty box after the next stoppage in play after the minors have expired
  • Timeouts are allowed in overtime only if a team has not used their timeout during regulation. However, the timeout can only be called during the last minute of play

    SHOOTOUT RULES

  • 5 players will be selected by the coach or captain at the end of the overtime period and submitted to the officials
  • If the score remains tied after 5 shooters it will go to sudden death shooters
  • After the first 5 players shoot a team can utilize those players again during sudden death
  • Each player can only shoot once during sudden death
  • If the score remains tied after each shooter on the team has shot during sudden death the players may shoot again, once in another round of shooting until the tie has been broken
  • Any player ejected during the game is not eligible for the shootout
  • The officials will record each shooter as they shoot to ensure that the preceeding rules are adhered to

If you have a team logo you would like to use on the website, here are a couple ways you can have it show on the website:
    1) Send the logo to me in an email.
    2) Upload your logo to a photo sharing site such as Photobucket and then update your "Team Info" section with the link to your logo.

There are a couple of logos that aren't showing up properly. Managers of those teams should check their "Team Info" section and make the necessary changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to Contact Me.

#3 - Time Keepers still needed urgently for 2 Ice times Friday night St. James Civic Center 10:00 and Sat Night Sam Southern at 10:00. If anyone knows someone in the area who might be interested please let me know ASAP. Sincerely, George
    10/23/2007
#2 - I made a small mistake on the schedule at Century The correct Ice time for Tuesday is 10:00 not 9:45 and the Correct time for Sat. is 9:45 not 10:00 as listed on the games. Two weeks in a row the teams have been sauntering in around 10:00 and the games have had to start as much as half hour late so effective immediately Tuesday night at Century the ice time is 10:00 and Sat. night at Century the ;ice time is 9:45 if teams are not ready with game sheets filled out penalties will be given for Delay of Game. Sincerely, George
    10/23/2007
#1 - Due to the large number of late changes still being asked for we can no longer accommodate any more so the schedule will stay intact effective immediately. Please remember that one teams request for a change can have adverse effects on possibly three other teams making changes difficult to manage. Sincerely George
